    You could box it in so it looks like a column

    You don’t even have to be handy with tools. Use gorilla glue to adhere the boards together at the edges. Using tape to hold until dry. I would paint or stain boards first.

    You could wrap or decorate around it. Make it a seasonal item: maypole, red ribbon fit valentines and Christmas, red and blue for labor and Memorial Day.

    We removed and rebraced but they can be boxed in with wood.

    I you are just looking to make it safe for kids to play down there, I'd get pool noodles at the dollar store and glue them vertically around the pole. If you want to cushion it AND make it decorative, I've seen a post on here where a women glued noodles in a curved design around a cardboard tube and painted them with textured paint to look like a large, decorative column. 😎

  • There are some helpful kits at home improvement stores or you can build simple ones with wood.

    Try Contact! or String wound around, or paint it or Use Fabric or Wallpaper or carpet or Decoupage it or wind ribbon around it. You could also stick on mirror tile covers etc. Best wishes Be adventurous and make it a feature...........Add tables around it. Make it into a place to sit etc.................
