Without knowing the dimensions of your windows above the Finished Floor, nor if you’re referring to something you previously saw in some other post:
keep in mind that the headboard needs to not be moving around, as I’m attached to the bed frame.
send us some pics and we can add more constructive advice 💁🏼♀️
Hi Debbi. I would go with a low profile headboard. That way you continue to get the natural light in your bedroom. If your headboard covers any part of the window, I recommend hanging a large mirror across from the windows. It will reflect all that beautiful sunlight. Good luck Debbi and Happy New Year.
What style are the windows, and how do they open? For example, horizontal sliding, sash, crank, etc. What are the window coverings at the present time? For example, horizontal blinds, track drapes, etc. Do you want to keep these or change them for some other style of coverings?
It will be important that you are still able to access the opening/closing hardware on the windows, and to still be able open and close the window coverings easily once the headboard is in place in front of the windows.
Hello there,
Do you have any pics you can share? You might be able to build in a headboard across the window to give you storage?
I included a picture for you to consider. They have flanked the windows with drapes on a rod and nightstands on each side. The drapes would be able to be opened and closed. The headboard only covers about the lower third of the windows so it isn't blocking all of the light. It can be done!
Debbie: unless you lean against the headboard... why not use it as the "headboard?" Like soft curtains - to compliment your bedding - would look lovely.
(I actually put a window behind my bed! ...see photo)
My bed is in front of double windows. The windows have shades (white) which I lower at night. Over them is a flat curtain that is just the width of the windows and goes to the floor. Then over my bed I have a very full canopy of a very sheer and light fabric. The bed is brass with a fairly high headboard. (where the sashes meet)
I usually install interior shutters on the window that would cover the headboard sight line from the outside to still look good from outside. Then treat the windows in the style appropriate for the room and privacy.
I tackled this issue in my One Room Challenge. Here is a link to my blog detailing my solution. Enjoy!
