How can I decorate the concrete balcony walls of a beach condo?
Carpets, even the open weave plastic kind just don't work out well for the balcony on the beach condo but the plain concrete is well...just too plain. How might I paint a pattern on the concrete? What type of paint would be best? Would it be best to best to add sand to make it less likely to be slippery?

How to Transfer Art Patterns Onto Concrete for Decorative Painting
Hi Jayce, painting a beautiful pattern on a concrete floor is relatively easy to do if you use a stencil. We did our outside patio, that gets full sun most days of the year and it still looks lovely. We used an outdoor floor paint. Here's a great video that will show you how - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYq7xRpt2bQ
Hi Jayce, there are lots of painted concrete tutorials here:

Outdoor deck and floor paint, then two coats of polyurethane. Adding sand is a good idea it you paint the whole thing. It gets VERY slippery when it is wet. I did my porch and while the paint was wet I sprinkled sand box sand (much finer and purer than regular sand). I painted the second coat on. You could also just make a really cool design with stencils or tape off a geometric design using painters tape to look like a carpet. You can even paint tassels on the end to make it look like an area rug.

You can stencil or tape off and paint any design. I suggest that you use a textured paint (like the kind they use on staircases) to prevent a slippery finish when it rains or you hose it off.
Find a simple stencil pattern that you love and jazz it up with paint rather than a rug.
Paint! It restores and protects. If you want to get fancy, get yourself a few Paint by numbers kits.
