Hi Jean, sorry you are unsure of pruning of your bamboo plant. Hope this helps you.

You'll only need to prune your bamboo once a year to keep it healthy and contained. Prune it in the late summer or early fall to minimize spreading. Cut any weak or dead branches at their bases and cut any flowering shoots. You should also snap away any low-hanging branches to keep the plants tidy.Nov 10, 2019

3 Ways to Prune Bamboo - wikiHow
Hi Jean. I have had bamboo stalks for years and never trimmed them. They have done wonderfully in a room with almost no outside light in a vase with water.
Thank you so much for taking your time to answer!
Hello Jean, I wouldn't recommend trimming your bamboo, they are generally pretty slow growing, I have never trimmed any of mine.
My bamboo plant is an indoor plant. It is planted in white pebbles glued together. The sprouts are about 6 inches tall from the braids.
Thank you everyone for your great tips. LOVE this forum.!
