Not something I would do, cooking oil goes rancid, will smell and attract pests. Head over to any hardware or home improvement center, there are many wood oils to choose from depending upon what you are looking to achieve.
Naomie is right. Use only products made for wood like Murphy's oil soap or other cleaners or polishes like Old English. Food oils also stay sticky and attract dust.
Cooking oils go rancid over time. Any good wood cleaner would work. Rejuvenate, Old English, Murphy's Oil Soap, Weiman, Liquid Gold, etc.

I've been using olive oil and vinegar and lemon juice together for years and my stuff looks and smells great. Never a problem...
Mineral oil! Not cooking oil. Mineral oil can be ingested and it will never go rancid.
I learned this the hard way when I put corn oil on some pieces and they stank and became sticky years later.
Hi Jean, Coconut oil moisturizes wood and brings out its natural colors. Sand the table, wash it with soapy water, let it dry, then use a clean, dry rag to rub on coconut oil. Leave it for 15 minutes, then buff the table by moving a soft, dry cloth in wide circles across it. Hope this helps you out!
This is not a option I would consider.
More so lemon oil or orange oil products are more preferred. I particularly like the beeswax orange oil products.
