Can you resurface travertine tile?
We have a fireplace that has travertine tile in between the white wood frame and the fireplace itself. Instead of pulling out the tile, we were wondering if it could be resurfaced in any way to change the color?
Thanks!

You could paint them according to this https://www.hunker.com/12264014/how-to-paint-stone-tiles

You could also look for some of those thin veneer tiles and tile over them.
Here is a whitewash method... the video shows travertine tile flooring, but I'm sure this would work for your fireplace:

Travertine is marble, more porous than most marble.
Masonry/concrete stain/dye will make it any darker color you want. It won’t peel and it actually dyes the marble.
Travertine is usually coated with something at the fabricator & I would make sure the surfaces are cleaned of this, first.
Be aware that you can chemically “clean” is he surface with vinegar and it will Etch the finish off. This means if you want it “shiny” you’ll have to clear coat it after dying it.
Hi Gail, I have attached a few videos to possibly assist you in this project hope they help you out!
