Wiping wooden furniture with alcohol will usually strip the finish.
YOu might have to try the special cleaners they suggest- Cerama Bryte Appliance Cleaner https://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=23804
Sue: some FB postings can be malicious. do not follow this advice for alcohol and wood. seek another, proven solution!

I found this project in a newsletter with a similar "caption". Sometimes Hometalk will use a unique ingredient that we don't expect for a project but then we discover that it's a normal use. ;) I suspect this is what you saw. The alcohol was simply used for cleaning. Wishing you the best.

Denatured alcohol and steel wool is what’s being used and it is not isopropyl alcohol.
It can be bought in the painting chemicals section of a DIY store.
Denatured alcohol only resolves shellac. If finish is a lacquer or poly it won't help much.
I use denatured alcohol to prep and clean after scuffing but before painting.
