Hi there, here's a piece that may help with the painting. https://www.hometalk.com/44234560/painting-laminate-furniture-dresser
This post may help with the trim. I think she used nails and glue. https://www.mylove2create.com/2015/09/how-to-transform-laminate-furniture.html

Peel and stick wallpaper could be another nice way to change the look.
Hi Ilene,
Prime it with (ESP) Easy Surface Primer that will give you a key to paint on. Stick trim on with double sided tape or wood glue. Best wishes.
Is it paper thin “laminate”? If so, it’s actually Melamine and it will tolerate very little sanding at paper-thin thickness.
So an extremely clean surface & a binding primer are essential.
If it is Melanine then you can’t nail the trim onto it, because it’s MDF (particle board) underneath it. I would use an epoxy cement or a glue that is specifically for glueing to non-porous surfaces and tape it to the piece with painter’s tape to have it stay in place while drying.
Thank you. I have to get up the nerve to work on a piece I had made at least 25 years ago to hold jewelry. Needed something functional.
