Here is an article that will give you some pointers. I will recommend that if you go with shiplap, make sure you invest in a good microfiber duster that grabs dust out of the cracks.

If you want real shiplap vs. boards on a wall, you will have to create the joinery that is the hallmark of shiplap.... my old house has cedar shiplap that looks like the side of a boat. When we put up ours, we didn't have the joints that fit together, just the boards with a thin gap between them. If you go that route, paint the wall first, to what you are going to finish the wood. Wood expands and contracts, and I thought of that every winter when a small space would open up on the one wall, revealing what was behind it. Caulk took care of it, but, it would have made life easier if I had painted first. I'm probably the only one who noticed it, but, it drove me crazy!
