Tile backsplash when there is existing countertop backsplash
We are thinking about how to add a backsplash to our kitchen. Unfortunately when we had our countertops installed we ordered a small backsplash that comes part way up... See more
Pick your material. Then you will have to do the prep work based on the type of materials you chose. For example, tile will require cement backer board installed. You will need mastic to hold the tile in place, spacers, rubber float to press the tile into the mastic, painter's tape to secure until mastic is dry, grout, sealant. I think that's everything for that route. So once you have decided on the type of material, come back for specific guidance on what to do next.
Hi Chris, this may help... https://www.familyhandyman.com/tiling/new-backsplash-with-kitchen-mosaic-tile/
As Kathy pointed out, backslashes get wet and the material itself as well as what it is mounted to- both need to mitigate water damage and be highly cleanable.
Despite people wanting ship lap and other rustic looks, they are not scrubbable nor water resistant.
Yes, come back & we’ll be more specific.
Chris what kind of back splash are you looking to do. You can use tiles. Press and place tiles. Tin, wallpaper, etc.
Think about the color design and material you wish to use.

depending on the material you have chosen, the most most important thing you will need to do is correct measuring. Use a level and draw guide lines to help you keep your tiles, etc level and not crooked.

Here is a helpful video, but it'll depend on what material you're using for the backsplash itself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaTclDA55Rs
Hi Chris,
Start in the corner and work across to corner, leaving grout space. If you have never tiled before you can get tile spacers from tile shop to help. They can supply all the necessary tools to do the job. Enjoy the process.
