How do I paint over marble?
It is a small accent table shaped like a flower. Type of paint? Do I sand it?
Odds are it's a laminate. I would clean it , scuff the finish by lightly sanding so the paint has something to adhere to, prime it and paint. You'll want to seal it to protect it.

You can paint it, just use the right type. Try an oil based for this project.
You'll need to sand it so the paint can adhere. I'd give it a couple of thin coats of the color of your choice, letting it dry well between each coat. Then add a clear sealer to protect the painted surface. Let that dry well, maybe several days before you use the table heavily. The paint will totally change the look of your area! Go for it!
First, paint the thing white. Next, paint gray splotches. Finally, paint black wavy lines.

Hello,
There is a product called ESP (Easy Surface Preparation) It covers even Melamine! Use that first and then the colour of your choice, or you could use a timber base colour and then use a Dry brush Gel Stain over the top to form a wood grain.
Best wishes..........
Scuff up the surface with 200 grit sandpaper to remove the gloss. wipe off with a damp cloth. Prime with Kilz primer. Then paint your color. You can use acrylic latex paint. All I use. Seal with three coats of a water based polyurethane.
Whatever you do do NOT use Chalk paint it will scratch off. Go with Williams idea of just scuffing up the surface to remove the gloss or get KrudKutter gloss remover and spray on and wipe off. Then use a good stain blocking primer. If you have a paint sprayer I would use that because you will not have brush marks. If not use use a good purdy brush or mohair roller. Use several coats of primer, then paint. Apply an acrylic as poly will yellow. Or use Lacquer. Lightly sand in between coats. Since it is a table I would use 3 coats of sealer.
love it
I have one just like this. I painted the legs black with Rusteolum Milk paint(eclipse). I then scuffed up the table a bit, with sand paper and laid faux wood plank vinyl stick flooring. Looks amazing.
