What can I use as a compost accelerant?
I know there are a few commercial products, but I looked at them and the main ingredient is water, followed by molasses and then a small percentage of microorganisms!!! Just wondered if there is anything else I could use to speed up my compost. Thank you.

From what I've read, add anything that contains nitrogen, like coffee grounds.

Wouldn't feel comfortable putting something that is toxic in my compost pile. There is a big debate over whether to compost dog poo or not. If in doubt keep it out.
To accelerate composting it needs to be watered regularly. When I first started compost, I didn't know it had to be watered to heat up the process. Also, it needs a mix of both green and brown to keep cooking. Brown is stuff like leaves and dry grass, green is the moist stuff like grass trimmings and food waste.

Hello, I found this little snippet on the net, hope it helps you
Good nitrogen sources include Urea, blood meal, grass clippings and alfalfa meal. These are much better for the compost pile than compost accelerators, compost starters and compost activators – and cheaper!
Have you considered worms? Regular old earthworms. They need a bit of soil mixed in, but they break it down to smaller particles via digestion, introduce bacteria (also by the digestive process), & help churn the pile.
Ask all the guys in your life to pee on the pile. Seriously :)
