Thank you for posting this question. I never thought about this but last night I did a closet clean out and noticed a few pair of black pants I kept are a bit faded so I'm going to check out the recommendations you received.

use rit dye instead. It will work a lot better

The degree to which black clothes will become re-darkened depends on the fibre content of the garments. Synthetics such as polyester will not absorb the dye as readily as natural fabrics such as 100% cotton.
