How can I repair a hardwood floor that has separated?
The house had some settling issues. That has been corrected. Can the very narrow gaps between the hardwood strips be filled in?

Recently i had a huge mess and i need to fix it before my parents find out. Any ideas?
We had something similar. They used plastic wood to fill the spaces. It was ok but not perfect.
They have wood filler or wood putty you can use for that.

Hi! Elmer's makes a tinted wood filler that I have used for other projects. It's reasonably priced and easy to use. Since wood expands and contracts, it may crack at some point.
Any movement in the floor can cause wood filler to pop out. Best solution is to fill the gaps with thin pieces of wood and wood glue. Can be stained to match the floor
If you are refinishing the floors, you can use the wood dust with resin to make you own filler also...... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-MsW89nyfM&t=71s
If they are really old pine plank floors they used to use sisal rope to fill gaps.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7focJeab0pM
Hello Ann,
You can buy wood filler, or use Ramin - timber or maybe even coloured Sealer from a tube. Best wishes. PS Try somewhere not obvious first to try them out.
You can use wood putty and stain to match prior to putting in. I did that on our farmhouse.
When we had ours laid the carpenter used glue mixed with sawdust to fill in cracks and it worked really well

Wood floors expand and contract with the weather and the seasons. If the gaps are very narrow, it's likely that a change in weather will push them back together. Keep an eye on them for a while first before attempting any kind of repair.
Thank you. We've had a lot of rain here this winter, but this separation started last summer. Ram Jack has done a lot of support braces down about 55 feet under multiple areas on the back of the house. We've owned the house for 20 years now and I'm just concerned. I'll give it till the end of the summer and then re-evaluate the situation. Again, thanks
