Hello Louise! Familyhandyman usually has some good ideas that work!

Plunging is the first and best way to remove a clog. Additionally, you can use snake the toilet or try a product that you flush. I like Green Gobbler Septic Saver Bacteria Enzyme Pacs. They clean out the pipes - just drop & flush - and are good for septic systems if you have one.

Plunger is the first thing to try, as others have said. Be sure you have a toilet plunger rather than a sink plunger: https://www.applewoodfixit.com/blog/3-types-of-plungers-which-is-best/

If your toilet bowl is already filled to the brim, either empty out some of the water or be prepared for a little overflow. Next, pour one cup of baking soda and one cup ...
Plunger first. Google HOW to use it properly. Most people don't know how. You need to create a suction with the air in the plunger head to first try to "push" the clog then try to "pull" the clog with the air bubble you create with the plunger head. You don't just plop it in the water and start popping it up and down. If the does not work try a product called Green Gobbler. It dissolves clogs and doesn't have the same harsh chemicals as the commercial drain cleaners.

Unclog a Toilet Without a Plunger
What I found that works is I fill a bucket or container with water and pour it into toilet to push the clog down, and if it is still there, I then plunge it.

Hi! If plunging doesn't work, consider a plumber's snake. We removed a stubborn clog with one. They aren't expensive and I watched a Home Depot video before using it. Easy enough if you are careful not to damage the toilet. Good luck and stay safe!
You can buy a "snake" at the hardware store. It works the best!
When you notice a nasty clog, your best bet is to fill a pan with hot water. Heat it up on the stove or use the tap, but don't let the water get to boiling point. Pour it down the drain and let it sit for a few minutes to see if it loosens the clog.
