As a general plant food, I use Epsom Salt on the ground around plants. This is magnesium sulfate, just put a small amount around the plant and then water it. Be careful to not get it on the plant, it can burn it.

There are lots of options available to make plant food at home but the one I used with my plants and really helps with the visible results is goes like this. Once a month, I water my houseplants with a mixture of 1 tablespoon Epsom Salts, 1 tsp. baking powder, 1 tsp. salt, 1/2 tsp. household ammonia, 1 gallon of water and that's it. apply it directly to the plants and you are good to go or if you don't want to use homemade food plants then you can use growmate organic plants food.
