I have a gray and yellow shower curtain and used that to determine the color of my throw rug. When in doubt you can always go with white.

Since your bathroom is so neutral, the sky's the limit as far as what colors you can use now. What color(s) make you happy? You could change it out regularly with a couple of rugs and several colors of towels and accent pieces. Have fun with it and it's an area where you could be more daring than in another larger area.
Costco has some really nice dark gray and light gray rugs, plus they have the towels to match if you want gray. I would get a new shower curtain with some color, blues, yellows etc. Then you can get towels and a rug to match.
A pop of color would be nice in there, blue or yellow tones go with the gray and taupe. Then add a few small accents around the bathroom that match the rug.
If you plan to stay with neutrals on accessories go with neutral on the rug. If accessories are going to add a pop of color then color on the rug. Personally it needs a pop of color. It looks to bland for my taste. A mixture of neutrals and color in accessories, shower curtains, and the rug.
HI Brooke - Food for thought with a bathroom rug... think about using an indoor/outdoor quality rug that will handle the wet and moisture of a bathroom. Grandin Road is my favorite place for those rugs (we have several in our home and outside!) and they are having huge sales now due to "the current situation." Good luck with your project! Hugs, Holly
