Hi, Donna, you may need to cut off the collar with a hacksaw or similar, then sand down any remaining fragments to insure a proper fit for your new cover. Don't you love when people make adaptations of their own that become problems for the next owner...?
Hi Donna: It should just screw off, or there could be screws holding it on. Remove it and take it with you to the home improvement centre to get an exact match. They like it when you do that, it saves a lot of guessing:) Good luck
Hi Donna. Amazon, Home Depot, Lowes, Menards, Ace Hardware all sell dryer vents. Take measurements and pick one out that will fit. I like the aluminum kind they are easier to clean and last forever.
Cynthia...my dryer vent looks like the one you replaced. I lost the cap on mine and do you think I could find a replacement for it? NO. Finally found a plastic lid and taped it on the top. Doesn't look very pretty but does work. Now I know where to get the new vent when I need it,

Purchase a new exterior vent cover of the exact same size. Remove screws in old one, and put aside. Remove old cover.
Inspect the vent to make sure no lint is clogging the vent line, which can cause fires. Clear lint as needed.
Align new vent cover, replace screws and you're done.
Make sure you also check the interior dryer vent hose at rear of dryer for lint build up.
