I am wondering what would cause a huge curved divot in the lawn?

Hi Rosemary,
has someone driven on your lawn with a large truck? Have you had any work done that needed a lawn tractor?
Hopefully not the start of a sinkhole! More than likely a vehicle with massive weight or something very heavy being dropped or placed onto your yard., such as construction equipment. Is there any road work going on in your area? Are there any depressed tire tracks you can see?
Rosemary: maybe you could call your city or town and see if any work is being done or if they can inspect for a sinkhole.
It’s likely a stump finally disintegrated under the lawn. Especially if trees were cut down before construction.
Is any pipeline renovation underway? The digging or their equipment may have caused the depression.
Is it long or just circular? Does it line up with you house main drain? It could be a collapsed main drain pipe. Won't show up until your house drains start backing up.
Hello Rosemary,
A Cart Horse! or smaller horse or pony, a deer, a Moose?. Hope that helps
Hello. Do you have moles that might’ve made tunnels and subsequently collapsed?
Hello again,
Exactly how large is this divot and exactly where is it on the lawn?
My idea of a huge one and yours may be very different, but, if it is a rut like a tire mark, it may be a result of someone driving on your lawn. Is the area wet? Is the grass pushed aside or caved in? Is there a hole? Good luck and stay safe!
It is probably where a water or gas line is buried from the road to the house.
Maybe have it checked out to make sure it is not a septic tank or well that could be dangerous.
