To remove the glue, you will need to heat it with a heat gun, until it is soft and pliable. Then scrape it with a scraper. This job will require A LOT of elbow grease.
First scrape. Apply boiling water then scrub after it begins to cool. Be careful not to splash it. Then you can use a glue remover like mineral spirits or goo gone. Then sand.
I second the boiling water once you've gotten everything off that you can. Good luck!

YES!! Carpet adhesive can be tough. I had that same problem and even a stripper wasn't working. The best thing that worked for us was a steamer, then scrape. If you don't have a handheld steamer, boiling water should work too.
Have you tried Goo Gone? I've had success with it for many sticky situations.
Hello Sally,
You could try Goo Gone or WD-40 or a spirit of some sort!. Best of luck....
Hello, You could try Surgical Spirit!
