How to remove cigarette smoke smell from my sewing machine?
I just bought a used sewing machine. Brought it home and wiped it down with Clorox wipes and they were dirty. Now the machine reaks of cigarette smoke. I tried vinegar and also Fantastic. Still stinks! I should have known! The house has a stake, funky smell! Any suggestions?

Hi, here's a link that might help. One person suggested bagging the whole machine up for a few days.

Can you place the sewing machine ourdoors for several hours, placing a fan behind it to blow any smoke smell away? Remember to open the accessible points, also. If your house smells, you may need to use Febreeze or sprinkle baking soda or Resolve carpet cleaner liberally on your rugs for six hours, then vacuum and dispose of the bag.
Maybe you can place it outside on a dry day for a while? Or you can clean it with a bleach solution.
If setting in direct sun does not work, take to have professionally cleaned. Many household products are not always the best. Ever so often a sewing machine needs an oil and lube just like your car. Here are some sites to help you out.

Good luck.
The manual just has you clean around the bobbin case with the little lint brush. No oiling required. I guess because it is a computerized machine vs a mechanical.
It’s the outside of the machine the plastic that has absorbed the nasty cigarette smoke!
How can that be ? is it plastic ?
I would give it a thorough cleaning using a microfiber cloth and wipe it down really well. Check to see what cleaner is safe for the non electronic parts. Always apply the cleaner to the cloth, not the machine. If you have bamboo charcoal, it absorbs odors better than baking soda, but it may take a day or so. Nicotine leaves a waxy residue that you do not want on your skin, so wear gloves. If all else fails, a professional cleaning may be necessary. Good luck and stay safe!
Hello Sophie's mom,
Change the Drive rubber and the oil maybe. Have you looked underneath the machine within the housing. Maybe they stashed something there at one time? Good luck!
It’s the plastic housing/exterior that stinks!
You might reach out to the manufacturer, see if they have any suggestions for you as they understand the components of the machine best.
I would wipe down with Lysol wipes and set it outside (on a cool day) and let it air out.
Hi Sophie's mom, Vinegar would be my first choice. Clean it the best you can by removing all old grease and oil. Replace with new. The smell will permeate all inside too, also take it in and get it serviced, that should deal with the insides too, hope this helps
Maybe change the machine oil??
