How do I get the shiny spots on the floor to go dull.?
I stained my floor 3 days ago and I have shiny and dull spots on the floor. I tried reapplying stain and letting it sit for 10 mins they are still there. I tried wiping mineral spirits and they are still there...I afraid to apply the poly that it will not dry properly. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated. Thanks

You probably should have wiped stain off earlier. Not sure how to fix it now.
Hi Gregory I noticed this myself when I stained my floors. Shiny spots etc. I determined it looked like that because of wood grain and not because the stain was actually wet. I applied poly with no problems, the poly was semi gloss and made the whole floor shiny. Hope that helps!
yeah it seems to be the grain thats shiny...Thanks

Hi Gregory, I agree with GrandmasHouseDIY, if it is just the stain on the grain, if the color is a match it should be okay.
You can scuff with fine steel wool. Then touch up the finish.
GrandmasHouseDIY is correct. The dull spots is where the stain absorbed more than the shiny spots. I bet the grain is wider on the dull spots and tighter on the shiny spots. Polyurethane will smooth out the final finish.
Hi! I agree with the others. Wood can be blotchy when it absorbs differently. There is a prestain product that is supposed to help with that for your next project. Pick your level of shine and apply your sealer. Good luck!
