    Hi,

Not sure what you question is...can you clarify what you need to know? Are you trying to kill a tree or letting us know what happened when you did this to a tree. Are you trying to understand what happened to a tree when cardboard was wrapped around it?

Girding a tree with cardboard shouldn’t kill it. We are confused, as to why you used the word GIRDED?

A weed whip cutting into the bark of the tree should make it very ill.

Tying metal wire around the trunk as well.

Both of those are dangerous girding.

Is that what happened to you? Or are you asking if it can be done? I'm sorry, but, could you add more information? Good luck and stay safe!

I don't think this will happen. The cardboard will deteriorate rather than kill the tree.

If you need a tree to be gone from your yard, I'd talk to a tree service. Even if you kill it, you still have to deal with cutting it down and getting rid of it. I think that dead trees are more dangerous to dispose of than live trees. You can at least get some estimates from tree service places around you to get some ideas of what you could do with it.

    Hi,

Like the others, I'm not sure how we can help with your question. However, I got to wondering if you wanted the tree dead or if you want to know if it can be fixed. It depends on how much of the tree is dead. If it seems dead on the top, it's possible that there is still life below. You really need some arborist skills to determine that and even try to fix it. My best suggestion is to find a professional to look at your tree so they can give you the proper answer. We're just guessing since there aren't really enough details. Wishing you the best.
