How to choose between painting & staining a previously stained porch?
I have a stained porch that my grand dog chose to use as her toilet so the stain is gone in several places. Should I re-stain the deck or paint it? Which will hold up longer? I am afraid if I paint it, when I move furniture, the paint will chip.

You can paint it , but it will be more work due to priming and then painting. I would power-wash it, let it dry, and then re-stain it.
Hi Sherry
I would clean it well before painting or staining to get rid of germs and odors. Here is some info for you

It would be better to stain your porch rather than paint. The paint is more likely to bubble and peel over time and then you would have to sand to get rid of the paint. Paint does not do well on exterior decks and porches. Perhaps you remember what kind of stain was previously used and you can just clean the porch floor and then stain it again.
Hello, you can buy furniture sliders to protect the floor when moving furniture so the floors aren't damaged. There are lots of ideas on deck painting here:

Stain will definitely hold up over time with less maintenance than paint. Also, depending on how long ago the stain was done it could cause issues with paint adhering properly.
Yes, clean it extremely well because the urine is in the pores of the wood.
Soap and water isn’t fully going to get rid of it and I would buy liquid septic tank enzymes ($8 at HD) and soak the wood in it.
If you’re inclined to use vinegar or bleach, forget the enzymes as they need to live long enough to eat the urine.
Grand-dog has an established behavior pattern and therefore, consider that porch paint should seal the wood and make it easier to wash next time.
Hello. I would definitely stay with staining the PT wood. We have a screen porch and we have an enormous deck. We use the solid color formulation of deck stain on the deck and it wears very poorly we need to touch it up nearly every year. It’s a nightmare to maintain. In the screen porch area the floor is sealed with transparent stain and it is much more durable and attractive.
The transparent stain pressure treated wood is going on it’s fifth year much less maintence.
I would suggest if your going to paint a small to medium size deck use marine paint. Its accustomed to wet-n-harsh- weather!
Use paint but make sure you use one that is suitable for outdoors. You will still have to do yearly maintenance likely.
