How well will spray paint stay on acrylic paint when wet?
I'm painting a mermaid tail that's made out of 3mm neoprene. I mixed acrylic paint with textile medium and did three coats and the color came out very well. I'm attempting accents today and wanted a faded look, but don't have an airbrush, so I'm thinking of using a blue spray paint on the white acrylic. I'm not worried about the color popping, but rather the color staying on. I will seal the tail with waterproof Rustoleum leak seal, but I didn't take into account using spray paint in my research. Do you think it will stay on?

Misty: I see no reason why it would not stay on. Apply paint with a light hand... you can always add more... but it's difficult to take away
hi Misty
Here is info on this paint for you

Hi Misty, I also don't see why it won't stay on for a good long time especially with your choice of Rustoleum sealant.
While the object is wet or the acrylic paint is wet?
I think as long as it's sealed you will be ok!
I'd seal over top the whole thing!
Hello. Wonderful project...I just painted a mermaid. I wonder if a wax highlight might be an option. I absolutely love this product, been using it for more than 20 years just reordered more....
Metallic blue green acrylic sealed would be another option spray paints fail when submerged. Last I would call the Rustoleum paint experts for their suggestions

This is not an answer to your question, but I am curious, so have to ask - How the mermaid tail is going to be used when completed? Is it for a costume?
What kind of spray paint? I've used spray paint on vinyl fabric before and it never fully cured. It was a complete mess and got very sticky. Wondering if neoprene would act similarly. Your best bet would be sticking with the fabric paint. They have SPRAY fabric paints and that is what I would use. Check out my post:

This post shows the fabric spray paint I used to paint the pleather. It was sticky at first but then cured and soaked into the fabric. WOW sounds like such a cool project!!
Hello Misty,
Why not use a Toothbrush and flick spray colour on? Have fun.
It should stay after you seal it all
I would let it dry completely before spray painting.
Let the acrylic dry completely before adding the spray paint and you should have no problem.
Hi Misty, it should be fine if you are sealing it, but maybe just try to do a test on a spare piece of neoprene if you can, that way you won't waste time on it only to find out it didn't work.
