Some dog owners immediately flush the area with water, this helps right after the dog pees. The burns you see in the lawn are similar to fertilizer burn, so diluting them out makes sense.
Another way to avoid any dog pee burn is to take the dog for a walk.

Hello. A Hometalk search might be needed. My solution was to teach my dog to pee in a mulch bed. That’s worked for almost 20 years to save my grass.

Fix Burnt Grass & Dog Urine Spots With This Easy Solution!
It is a common misconception that "acid" in a dog's urine is what causes the brown spots left behind on our lawns. However, the culprit causing lawn burn is actually the high nitrogen content of the dog's urine. Nitrogen is “the waste” in the urine and is the result of protein breakdown through normal body processes.
The most effective way to prevent dog urine spots (grass scald) is to the water the area immediately after your dog urinates. If you have easy access to a hose or a rain barrel, give the area a quick dousing. I also have a tub in my sink that I use to catch excess water when I’m at the sink; instead of letting it go down the drain, I collect it and use it to water my plants. This idea could be used to water the lawn as well, while remaining mindful of the environment.
The kind of grass you put in your yard also determines how well it will tolerate dog urine.
if you fertilize your lawn, use a reduced nitrogen fertilizer.
I just reseeded mine. Rake the area first, put down some good top soil, seed, cover with more soil and in a few weeks new grass will pop up.
Loosen the soil in the bare spot with a rake and remove any debri. Overseed the bare spot and rake in the seed. Then cover with a little soil. Water every other day for about a week when no rain expected. Should see growth in about two weeks. Do not mow the new grass unril well established. Did this to about six bare spots I had.
Hi Marsha. Rake up and remove all the burned grass. Put a handful of soil down followed by a handful of grass seed. Then put another handful of soil on top. Water gently every day for a couple weeks. Good luck Marsha.
Hi Marsha, so sorry to hear that. It's a common problem. Dog urine is rich in nitrogen and ammonia so it acts as a liquid fertilizer in a concentrated amount. You can put a tablespoon of baking soda on the spot and water the area to dilute. I personally don't believe in giving your fur baby supplements to neutralize the nitrogen in their wee. It messes with their own body functions.
