As long as it doesn't dry and stop the disposal from working I would think it would be totally fine especially because its latex paint. I would run some vinegar and a lot of water through it. A good idea would be to put a few solider things through it as well to help get the paint off of it.
I would called the manufacturer right away to see what they recommend.
Yes, run the water a while to dilute. I agree with grandmashousediy that vinegar might work to cut it. I don't think you have to replace the disposal at all. How much spilled down there?
Yes, call the manufacturer with the make and model numbers, they have a hot line and can help you with what to do.
Also you might read the paint can and see how they recommend clean up, maybe even contact them on what to do.
If the disposal will still function, run bunches of ice cubes down the disposal with cold water running. You can add lemon, orange, or grapefruit rinds though as well, but the ice cubes will help to rid the paint fand also sharpen the blades.
Latex paint is not good for septic or sewers- also some of the paint will adhere to the garbage disposal but you may be able to use it a while longer- you could take it off and use a paint remover to clean it out and then let it dry well before putting back on
I would pour hot or boiling water continuously and hope for the best. You don't want to use a chemical because it could damage your pipes.
Hi Nicollesimmons, hopefully you haven't let id dry, keep flushing it to dilute it and prevent it from solidifying.
Hot water to dilute it. Vinegar can help break it down more. Cold water can cause it to harden
I would not let it dry... which by this time it may have. Water should do it unless there is a lot and it has dried.
Hopefully you found a solution! I agree the warm water and maybe vinegar.
It is not the garbage disposal that I would be worried about. You can clean that with lots of hot water. And as long as it you can turn it on and it still works it will be fine. Do not use ice as it will solidify. Paint will coat the insides of your pipes, shrinking them down and causing materials to build up and clog your drains. DO NOT pour paint down drain. While small amounts of latex paint can safely be washed down drain to a septic system or wastewater treatment plant, this practice should be kept to a minimum. Limit this to brush cleaning and other clean-up. DO NOT throw liquid paint in regular trash.
I would run the disposal and water for a long time.
Yes keep running water
