Hello Sea. Cut the top off of a clear bottle. Then use a ruler to mark measuring increments starting about 2 inches from the bottom. Put some rocks in the bottom for weight, then fill the bottle with water to the 0 mark. This will calibrate your gauge. Invert the top of the bottle top and place it upside down in the bottle to act as a funnel. Place your bottle on a flat surface outside. Wait for the next time it rains and observe and record rainfall amounts. Good luck Sea.

Hi there,
Mark up a clear bottle in inches and set it out in a suitable place.
You can probably buy a plastic rain gauge for a few $$. We don't need one in our area. We only get about 7" of rain each year in eastern WA.

Check with your local tv station. Many of them enlist viewers to measure rain and snow fall. Several in our area do. Some provide equipment or directions and you can provide accurate results! Good luck and stay safe!
