How can you post about using bleach on pumpkins?
Please remove all these posts! Using bleach on pumpkins is toxic to the animals who eat them. A simple vinegar/water wash will preserve them just as well & won't make the animals ill. It's irresponsible to leave these posts as is.

Oh, thank you, this is a concern, please contact Support at the bottom of the page, great suggestion. Although I am uncertain that vinegar and water will do much for the preservation of pumpkins. It is usually cold that helps preserve them. Best to you.
Cheryl thank you, I also believe we need to care for all of God's creatures.
OMG! I never heard of using bleach. Vinegar kills mold spores so a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water is definitely safer. These posters probably didn't consider animals munching on the pumpkins.
Thank you for the advice.
They might have been for decoration and not to feed animals.
So true! I believe hydrogen peroxide would also do the job.
Hi Cheryl. I haven't seen any projects here on Home Talk that uses bleach on pumpkins. But I do agree that you should consider the animals, insects, and birds who will all benefit from the Fall harvest. Thank you Cheryl for bringing this information to us.
