Hi Trudie, repairing veneer (depending on how bad it is) can be really tricky. You could consider filling in with wood filler, sanding and then painting. Hi, you should be able to repair it by buying some patch veneer. And hope to find it in the same wood and color. Here's another link that may help

how is it damaged? Peeling veneer? Water marks? Scratches?
You could either fill it with wood putty, sand, and paint or remove all the veneer and replace it with a new piece.

Fit the broken edges carefully together to make sure they match perfectly. Then apply contact cement to both surfaces, or spread carpenters' glue on the base wood. Set the broken veneer carefully into place, matching the edges exactly, and press firmly to knit the broken edges together. Clamp the mended area.
