Most public library systems have volunteers that conduct sales from discarded books and books that the library has received as donations. Funds raised go towards purchasing something new and updated for the library. Their groups are called 'Friends of the Library' or similar.
I would suggest that you contact your nearest public library for further information as to what books they are presently accepting as donations.

many libraries accept donations. ours has a big fundraiser sale of donated books each year
