The best way to clean lacquered polished brass is to remove surface dust with a soft cloth, and then use a mild solution of soapy warm water to clean sticky or dirty marks. Once clean, thoroughly dry with a soft cloth. A light coating of natural wax will then give them an extra bit of protection.
Hi Mary. Make a paste of equal parts of flour, salt, and vinegar. Rub this paste on to your brass door knobs. Allow it to set up to an hour and then wipe it up with hot soapy water. Then buff them with a microfiber cloth. Good luck Mary. Happy New Year.
Basic Cleaning
Step 1
Fill a bucket with warm water and a small amount of dish soap. Dip a cloth into the soapy water and wring it out.
Step 2
Wipe the door handles with the soapy cloth. Dip the brush into the water and gently scrub solid brass handles to remove stubborn dirt and debris.
Step 3
Rinse the cloth with clean water and wipe it over the door handles to remove soap residue. Dry the handles with a clean cloth.
I've always used a product called 'Brasso'.
Hi Mary, my Mom always used ketchup (tomato sauce) to clean her brass ornaments. Squirt some on a clean cloth and rub all over and then wipe off with a clean cloth and buff.
Hello for unsealed brass I use the Brasso product.
If your brass is unsealed, use Brasso or Ketchup.
If the brass is sealed, warm soapy water. If there are fine details in the door knob then use a soft wet toothbrush dipped in the warm soapy water. Take a clean rag with clear water to gently rinse off and then dry it.
Hello Mary,
Use Brasso, or other Metal polish for Brass, or steep them in Coca Cola over night!
