Painting a Brass Lamp
I have a brass/metal lamp with a nice shape - I think I would like to update it by painting it. Any experiences doing this? Suggestions? Helpful hints? Thanks.

Thrift Store Lamp Makeover
Anytime painting or doing something along these lines, I scuff with fine steel wool and then clean with denatured alcohol.
I have painted so many lamps. Rustoleum now makes a great primer that does not have to be sanded or scuffed. Spray that on, then paint whatever color you want to fit your decor. Easy peasy.
Hi! Clean thoroughly and use a spray paint intended for metal. Stay safe!
Careful clean item before painting.
Grease dust or debris coukd show and detract from paint job.
I prefer the Rustoleum spray paints particularly the universal series for metals. It did an amazing job on my metal mesh patio set.

PREPARE:
Always work in a well-ventilated area. Cover the floor and nearby items with a drop cloth. Lightly scuff any glossy surfaces and wipe clean with a lint-free cloth. Use Painter’s tape to hide any surfaces you don’t want to paint.
PAINT:
Using slow, back-and-forth motions, spray paint each item with several light coats of spray paint, making sure to overlap each stroke slightly. Apply 2-3 coats of spray paint, waiting a few minutes in between each coat.
FINISH:
Let spray paint dry for approximately 1 hour before handling.
