I use spray paint on many of my home projects! For anything metal, I rely on Rustoleum products. Good luck with your project!

Just clean it well and use spray paint for metal. Use multiple thin coats instead of one thick one
You can spray paint it for sure. Just hold the can a decent distance away and do light thin coats for best results.
Hi Rita, you can certainly paint the brass a new color, you can paint it flat with a chalk paint, or change the color to another type of metal with metallic paint, I used metallic paint to change my light fixture in the bathroom from brass to brushed nickel, it worked great! hope this helps you out, https://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/Jacquard-Lumiere-Metallic-Acrylic-Paint-2-25oz-8-Pkg/PRD48FF235GXZZ7?cmpid=sem_google_en_pla_none_11186350495_109263881003_None&gclsrc=aw.ds&&gclid=Cj0KCQiAvP6ABhCjARIsAH37rbQI6FmbMevqGBKzSGU7a7FxQw-TZ8zMV3wthKBQQ7F3nYijn6jdfVYaAku6EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
Your local paint/hardware store will have several good spray paint options. Just make sure you clean it well and a light sanding wouldn't hurt.
