If it's a tube tv, you should take it to an electronics recycling facility.
Local authorities usually have a place for safe recycling of old televisions.
Definitely needs to be recycled. The only thing I've seen done with the set itself is turned into an aquarium but you should still recycle the electronic pieces.
Yes, please recycle, some facilities take these, you'll have to research locally where to take it.
Take it to goodwill!
Our local dump site has a special section for TV recycling, perhaps yours does as well.
Hi Arlene, most recycle facilities will take this from you for free, jus to keep it out of the landfill. They have valuable metals in them that can be removed
Our city recycle place takes all electronics. We have a re-usit store where they transfer items that can be used for non profit organizations. So check with your city or town.
Sometimes there are pickups at mall parking lots, etc. for electronics, old paint, etc. I would find something like that to dispose of it for free.

here is info for you
Everyone here answered about disposing of a television. Do you instead mean that you have a place in the wall where a television was once inset? A friend has one in her living room. She lined the inset with mirror tiles, and displays pretty objects there. Because there's an electric outlet, she was able to put in a small light that's used for china cabinets and paintings. The builder put this tv inset space in every home (very '50s!); some of the other homes have them turned into bookcases or small liquor cabinets/bars.
Are you wanting to find out how to get rid of the television? Or reuse it?
