Hi Dottie, the key with any garden edging that I like to do is remove the sod in the place you want to put it so it sits beside your lawn. You can dig it down so its even with your grass or let it sit above it. But I find removing at least the sod will give your edging a nice clean look and then it won't shift out of place at all.

If you are using true cobble stone you don't need to dig or edge. It is rough and locks itself together. If you are using river rock you can also put on top of sod. Gravel will spread so you would need a barrier to keep in place.
