How to hang floating shelves on shiplap PART TWO
This is a continuation of an another post I started. Seth, if you are reading this, I accidentally clicked on resolve and it closed the thread :(. Sorry! Link to old post https://www.hometalk.com/diy/paint/furniture/q-how-to-hang-floating-shelves-on-shiplap-44397588?scid=8692841#c-8692841.
Recap, trying to hang wood shelves on this shiplap using rod brackets. I drilled holes into the wood so it's supposed to just slide in. Was having trouble finding the studs and the holes you see in the pic, I drilled too deep so the screws in the brackets were not screwing in.
So I used a magnetic stud finder to look for the studs in the baseboards, instead of removing the baseboards. The magnets stuck at two parts on the baseboard. It did not stick on the edges of the wall. So is it safe to assume this is the center of the stud?
On a 44 inch wide wall, is it safe to say there are only two studs?

The general spacing for wall studs is 16 inches on center, but they can be 24 inches, so you are probably correct.
It's possible there are just two studs where you marked them. You can confirm there are studs there by using the method in the original thread drilling a pilot hole to a specific depth. You'll feel it if you miss the stud and your bit pops through the drywall and is just spinning, no longer grabbing onto any new material. You can also probe that hole again to see how far something goes in.

I DID IT! Seth, thank you so much for all your help. I used the magnetic stud finder to find the studs as pictures above. I didn't want to drill holes again for the bracket so I made pocket holes straight into the stud without any anchors. AND IT WORKED!!! I am soo happy and thankful for this forum!!
Oh that turned out so so cute!! So glad another Hometalk member could help you!!!!

So glad you were able to get them hung. I think this is a common issue many people have so Em's idea of posting a project will probably help out many.
Thank you everyone! How do I list it as a project?
