How do I remove Nut Sedge?
I have Nut Sedge growing in my vegetable garden, especially in one raised bed. When the bed was prepped for planting the nut sedge was removed by hand and garden tools, but it’s returned with a vengeance.
It looks like fine shoots of triangular blades of grass with a fine white root and a small brown nut a the end of the root. It grows quickly and the grass blades get thicker, stronger, and taller.
I found products on the market for removing it from lawns, etc, but wondering if that’s safe to use in a bed with strawberry plants in it and around the veg garden beds, walkways etc.
Hand weeding is ineffective as the nut breaks away and remains in the soil to continue producing more blades of grass..
Thanks.

Hi Susan, after a little research it sounds like the number one solution is just plain old vinegar which is just awesome because that's safe to use close to edible plants such as strawberries etc. Here's how to do it. https://www.tipsbulletin.com/how-to-kill-nutsedge/
I also use vinegar in my garden to control the weeds. Here is some more information that may be helpful. https://homeguides.sfgate.com/kill-nutsedges-vegetable-garden-40243.html
I agree, vinegar is my go to in the garden. I put in a spray bottle, I don't mix it with water or anything else. Just be very targeted, because it will kill anything it touches.
Hi! When all else fails, vinegar or hot water usually do the job. Good luck!
Vinegar is worth a try outside the raised bed, but I wouldn’t try it IN the affected bed as I don’t want to kill my strawberry plants or the seeds I’ve also planted there....
Any other suggestions, other than vinegar and hot water, for inside the raised bed?
Thanks
Once you have removed as much as you can try weed fabric and a thick layer of mulch
