How to seal plywood?
Will spray paint seal and protect the wood? I have some pecan tree logs that I would like to use to make a border for our flower beds. I also have some scrap wood that I would like to use outside but I don't wnt it to rot or fall apart. Thanks for your help!

Really pressure treated or cedar are the most common woods that won’t rot outside. Pretty much everything else will. The most success I’ve seen is people finishing other woods
with marine varnish to protect it outside. Even then there’s no guarantees
Hi Laura, yeah I'm sorry to agree with the first answer but wood outside is going to rot lol its just the way it is. Especially with using it as a garden border I honestly don't think sealing it would be worth the effort as its going to eventually start to decay. HOWEVER, its not going to happen right away! You should get lots of years out of a garden border made of wood and then I would just replace them as you need to with a composite material or pressure treated wood :)
I use a good polyurethane made for outdoor use.
No way to seal wood to really protect it from the environment. Even pressure treated wood has life span and will deteriorate and rot over time. Cedar will last longer but does need to be maintained.
Hello. Exterior rated T11 is like a plywood and weather rated. I have it painted and used in my outdoor shower.
The best is marine epoxy.

I would ask the local paint store what's best. We built a flower bed with plywood and used a product our shop recommended. I can't remember the name, but worked great.
I would use exterior or marine grade paint.
In the end, it's not a winning battle to seal plywood for outdoors, it will invariably rot and warp. Your pecan logs will as well. You can try to slow it down with sealers but just know they won't last. Try your local paint store and they'll give you some direction.
The only thing that might slow down rot is Boat Marine Paint. Wood left outside will definitely warp.
Use a water and rot sealer like Thompson’s water seal ,something that’s used on decks would work.
Hi! I would use a good marine sealer. Be sure to seal the whole tging.
You can coat them with a quality liquid latex sealer. Or you can also give plywood even better water-proofing by sealing it with Aquarium sealant.
👍️ THANK YOU for all of your suggestions! Not sure which way I’ll go but at least my homemade border will last for a little while at least!
My husband makes wooden boats and uses a marine grade varnish. Like others have said, might not last forever, but it's your best shot.
