How to turn a single wide mobile home into a welcoming space?

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Nov 08, 2014When decorating a smaller or narrow space the trick is bright colors and De- clutter the space to give illusion of larger space. Light color curtains and light allowing shades also brighten everything up. Keep wall hangings to a minimum to create more free wall space, again giving the illusion that the rooms are larger then they are. Fresh door and trim paint also helps a lot. In kitchen area change hardware. That alone will change the entire look of the room. If you have laminate tops, you can paint them to give the appearance of granite for a fraction of the cost. Look around the HT site and get all sorts of great ideas on what others have done to their spaces. And be sure to take lots of photos before and after to share with us!Helpful Reply

PattyV on Nov 08, 2014I am assuming that the mobile home has paneled walls? If so, you can wash down with TSP, prime and paint. What a world of difference it makes getting rid of the matching color thruout. Our is a double wide that had the same color paneling on the walls, cabinets and doors. Same color throughout the house but it was in excellent condition and has a beautiful view of the water. However, the paneling had to go. We gutted the kitchen and sheetrocked the walls in the dining, living room and kitchen and guest bath. We left the bedrooms as is but I washed down the walls with TSP, primed and then painted a creamy white. What a difference that made. We also installed light colored hardwood flooring thruout, crown moulding and substantial base boards. I don't use curtains but woven shades to keep the place looking less cluttered. Seriously, paint is the first thing to do and next would be flooring and if possible, using the same flooring thruout will make it flow better. Good luck.Helpful Reply

Katheryn Melinda Melton on Nov 09, 2014Remove any non-supporting walls possible (room diving cabinets/bar etc) use lots of lighting and warm soft nutreal colors keeping furnishings sized to area (avoid large) pieces and clutter. Keep it simple and chic. Walls can be wall papered and or painted or both. Remember to clean any paneling with mineral spirits to all new wall covering to adhere. Use simple window treatments. Visit new mobile home lots to gather more visual ideas. GOOD LUCK!Helpful Reply

Marilyn on Nov 09, 2014We live in a 1978 single wide and we tore down the little half wall between the kitchen and living room and made one open concept space. I have painted every wall in the place and in 2009 we replaced all the flooring with vinyl plank so it's the same throughout. That made a huge difference and people comment all the time that it looks just like a regular house. We have also replaced all the windows with energy efficient ones and put a new metal roof on. Love it now!Helpful Reply
