Where can I get a cheap dog door?

The Garden Frog with C Renee on Nov 19, 201447 dogs? Wow you definitely need a doggy door. Unfortunately they are not cheap and You can order a doggy door that goes in a patio door for various size dogs and the price ranges from $179 and up. Do you have a patio/sliding glass door? or a regular door? Whatever way, the doors will cost. we made our own out of scrap wood but this time of year I cannot keep it in because the wind blows the flap. Look online at Home Depot or even Ebay.Helpful Reply

Grady on Nov 19, 2014Oh Carole that doesn't offend me at all. All but my oldest dog came to me for help because they were abused, except the border collies, so my dogs don't trust anyone but me. And I have only 2 cats but neither would be a match for a raccoon.Helpful Reply

AvonelleRed on Nov 19, 2014I think the only way you could have a doggie door and not worry about raccoons coming in or cats going out would be to get the electronic kind, but with 47 dogs, that would be 47 electronic collars, and that would be ridiculously expensive. The only other thing I could think of would be to separate the area of the house where the dogs can be, so that the cats and dogs don't mingle, but depending upon the layout of your house, that may not be possible.Helpful Reply

Faye Dalrymple on Nov 20, 2014Are these all in your house.wow. I can hardly keep up with 3 cats and two dogs but they all use my doody door and come back. Why would they leave if they have it good? We just made a hole in our porch wall and framed it up with two curtains , one in the inside and one on the outside and it works. I had cabinet doors on them inside and out so I could lock them if I wanted them all in at night but took them off and never replaced them. Looks like a cabinet then.Helpful Reply

Jill on Nov 21, 2014Seriously? I think you know what most people are afraid to say here already. Unless you have ample space, are a rescuer, and own a very large farm of some type, maybe you need some help dealing with this issue and placing some of these animals. Not to mention, that it probably is illegal where you live to have that many dogs and brings up health issues with having them all in your home. Besides, a single doggy door is not going to handle it. If you do have a very large yard, and a permit to have that many of them and are running a rescue and the dogs are not permanent, then why not and how about building outdoor heated/cooled kennels? I have seen rescuers with brick kennels that have heated floors, self watering systems, and doors that exit to caged areas where the dogs can go out to the bathroom themselves and are safe. On the inside straw bedding was used, just like in barn stalls. There must be a contractor around who can help to do this.Helpful Reply

The Garden Frog with C Renee on Nov 21, 2014I have had a doggy/cat door in and I live in the suburbs where raccoons and skunks and possum abound but not one has entered my home. The dogs and cats actually help keep the critters away. But a doggy door is not going to keep cats in and it has been pointed out electronic doggy doors and collars are going to cost a fortune. I prefer the cats to go in and out and mine are housebroke so I do not have kitty litter inside! what a great relief. Before that I had a kitty bathroom made out of a 36" cabinet with a door cut out for hiding the litter. My oldest cat lived until 2012 at the age of 21. He was an indoor and outdoor cat. I hope you seek out homes for many of the dogs because that is a lot of dogs to handle. After 2 dogs, that is a pack and I know from handling my 2 dogs (an Australian Shepherd and a Jack/Fox terrier) that they are like toddlers-separation anxiety and depression when I leave them. Cats are smart animals and I have 3 that go in and out and they have never tangled with a raccoon or other wild animal plus you have all those dogs and I can almost guarantee that the critters are steering clear of your home. Wild animals carry fleas, rabies, and diseases many times. I would be more worried about having that many dogs around and costs involved in flea preventative, shots, food, etc. I know you mean well by helping all the dogs but you are going to wear yourself out caring for all those dogs and if you do not have help keeping the feces picked up that can cause illness for you and the animals. Be well and ask a rescue for help.Helpful Reply

Grady on Dec 08, 2014Thanks for the offer. But I'm okay. My dogs are all fine and poop and pee up behind our barn. We have tons of raccoons near our house and all 5 of my coonhounds have tangled with 1 and my coonhounds lost. But all 47 dogs could get a raccoon. Any other ideas?Helpful Reply
