Popcorn ceiling question

by Nancy Jenkins
I think two ceilings were left before I before I bought the house because all of the other rooms have cleared off ceilings. Now do I need to move furniture out of room to do this? I have limited space to move furniture out, I have a small house. Cracking ceiling in room with popcorn ceiling the flatter stuff. No photos, maybe on something already posted.

Check out this post from another HT member. Notice her handyman just pushed all the furniture against the walls and the plastic he taped to the walls draped right over the furniture too. http://www.hometalk.com/diy/repair/how-to-remove-popcorn-ceilings-in-30-minutes-5955582 If you have a shop vac, you might also want to check out this guy's technique for removing popcorn ceilings. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yu3ov27D928 Where most people dampen the popcorn with a garden sprayer first and then climb on a ladder to tediously scrape all the softened, gooey mess off onto the floor, this guy seems to have come up with a more ingenious (and cleaner) idea by hooking a scraper up to a shop vac. Makes me wonder if it is really as easy as he makes it look! Since this appears to be a cleaner process, you could do one side of the room at a time by pushing the furniture to one side and scraping the ceiling on the opposite side of the room.

I suppose spray bottle of water and scraper for the messy part of job?
    • Shari Shari on Nov 30, 2014
@Nancy Jenkins Yes, but if you have one, or can borrow one, a garden sprayer would cover more area so it would be much quicker and easier. With a spray bottle, you would have to continuously be squeezing the trigger to get it to spray.

I used warm water in big spray bottle to get enough wallpaper down so this should be no trouble. Just have to do when strength back in legs to go up ladder. There are cracks happening so should be easy enough as long as that is it and not drywall or whatever underneath.

I have popcorn ceilings and wouldn't even think of changing. I hate the look of flat ceilings. You can see every flaw.

@Theresa J Well whoever lived, not rented this house took all but 2 popcorn/cottage cheese ceilings down. No flaws. Someone smoked here in living room, yellowing where I did spray the crack. And web sites from spiders, dust. It is small living room and other rooms also so kinda hard to move furniture. Have no carport or garage either.

Want to hear from others with small rooms and limited area to move furniture. Have no garage or carport to put furniture. At the same time I could clean up the wood flooring and redo stain etc.
