Pamela F on Jan 24, 2013Thanks everyone! Steve Bender aka Grumpy Gardener still thinks its an escallonia:-) What is the major difference between the two?Helpful Reply

360 Sod (Donna Dixson) on Jan 24, 2013@Pamela F , where did you say you purchased that I can't remember? The escallonia has a more tubular bloom, which butterflies and humming birds will like. I think the leaf is not pubescent (hairy) note *I could be wrong on that* , it is pubescent on the Azalea. The escallonia is less cold hardy and more warm climate (zones 7-9) and the Kurume Azalea is (zones 6-9)Helpful Reply

360 Sod (Donna Dixson) on Jan 24, 2013@Douglas Hunt , I wasn't sure if that was a bread and butter plant for Florida, but was going there in my head if it were a box store. We don't see them this far north, though the boxes sale some pretty bizarre stuff and tell people it will grow here!Helpful Reply
