My yard has a ton of boulders in it

Teri Sims on Aug 06, 2015If you have room - how about a rock garden in at least a portion of your area? You can position them to create "wells" for planting, or hiding a potted plant.Helpful Reply

DORLIS on Aug 06, 2015I would plant around them with flowers that like rocky areas. I agree with Teri Sims. How large are they, over 20"? I have moved large rocks by myself (age74) by wedging a crowbar under the rock, standing on it with 1 foot and keeping the other foot on the ground. This way, you can swivel the rock from side to side and gradually get it movedHelpful Reply

J Gilliland on Aug 06, 2015Wish I had a yard full of boulders! I am going to build a fire pit in our back yard and will have to purchase my rock, so that's how I would use them. A rock garden would be another way to make use of the boulders, also a dry stream bed or a water feature with a recirculating pump.Helpful Reply

Carole on Aug 07, 2015Look up gabion walls. You construct a metal cage and fill with the boulders. You can use as a retaining wall, decorative wall, bench seat, outdoor table (just add timber top) and I am sure there are many other great ideas. Depends how many boulders you have and the size of them. You could make a dry creek bed out of them if they are smaller and a lot of them. Could also be used to edge garden beds are as a feature in a garden bed. Create a rock garden - oh, so many ideas! I hope you post when you find an idea you like and can do in your yard.Helpful Reply

Carole on Aug 07, 2015BTW, when we moved to our current home there were a lot of old red roof tiles part buried on the border of our front garden and the vacant lot next door. We had no use for the ugly tiles and got rid of them. How I wish I had kept them as they would have been great stacked in metal cages to make gabion walls in the back yard. Kicking myself still over getting rid of them. We did check with the owner of the vacant lot before disposing of them and he said they were of no use to him either.Helpful Reply
