Changed a Tool Box to a Patio Bench.
Used re-claimed 2" x 6" old deck stair steps to make back support and end legs.
Used re-claimed 2" x 6" old deck stair steps to make back support and end legs.
Used #9 deck screws 1 3/4" long to attach back support bottom and front leg together. Back support end cut that is attached to upper support at 15 degree angle with miter saw. Used 2 1/2 deck screws to attach back support and front leg under the over hang lip up truck box.
Attached cent back support to tool box made a 2 1/2 " support under the back lip of truck box One end cut at 15 degree angle to match the angle of the 2 end supports. Used two 1 3/4 " deck screws to attach lip support to the center back support. Positioned the center support in placed after tip the box up and opening the lid. Used 2 1/2" deck screws to attach the support from inside the tool box.
Used to 1'" x 6" x 6' boards from Home Depot to make cushion supports. Used 1 3/4" Deck screws to attach 1 support across the top of the 3 back supports, using a level to make sure that both ends were the same height above the tool box lid. Since I used re-claimed steps from deck stairs, I line one end even with the top of the shortest support. The added a second support equal distance between the bottom of the top support and the tool box lid. ( Sorry, forgot to take a picture due to rain before completing the back.) Cushions were from a previous own patio set I left with a house we sold before moving.

Added pillows to the bench along with the cushions.. Also from a previous set.
After completing I removed the cushions and used a vinegar/steel wool weathering solution to make the new wood cushion supports to look weathered like the reclaimed deck stair steps. I already had the weathering solution made from a previous project. Weathering solution is made by dropping a steel wool pad in an old Heinz gravy jar with a lid and adding cider vinegar to fill the jar. Let it set over night and the mixture will darken the new wood. I try to always keep a jar filled after using; simply add more vinegar to replace what was used. You can also use white vinegar... using a steel wool soap pad will give a bluish tint.
