Prime: Thoroughly clean the tub's exterior, then apply a quality latex primer with a foam roller and let dry to create a smooth surface. Apply: Paint at least two coats of exterior-grade latex paint in a satin or semigloss finish onto the exterior using a foam roller.

Hi Carrie,, The outside of the tub can be painted with a gloss paint and the claws will look great in a contrast paint. (Gold- Silver - Black or darker shade of outside paint). Sounds a great project..........

Here is a good video.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXMlo-kjlHA I would use epoxy paint, and have used aluminum paint to do the feet.
Having done this at my 110 year old house, you’ll need to take it outside, so it will need to be 70 degrees or more.
Turn it upside down on some old 2x4’s.
Remove the feet.
Remove all the faking peeling rusting paint.
Stabilize the rusting areas with a Rust Converter (Auto parts store).
Sand & clean the repairs, if not looking perfect.
Prime with enamel primer. We are taking about 80-120 year old cast iron here. As in NO latex paint, yet.
After the oil enamel primer has dried for 2 days, then if you really want to put latex paint on it, then you can.
