How to Turn Plastic or Wire Hangers Into Non-slip Hangers

I recently purchased some heavy duty steel wire hangers but my heavy coats kept slipping off of them. I researched DIY sites for ideas on how to stop the slippage. I tried the felt pipe cleaners, was not sure of the yarn and didn't like the look of rubber bands (but it seemed more sound than the other two) and I thought my steel wire hangers were too thin for using hot glue as some suggested. I had decided to try some latex tubing instead of rubber bands but it was expensive and more than I was willing to pay. I was last minute Christmas shopping at DT and saw some Grips for pens & pencils. They came in two styles, smooth and ridged (both multicolored with 10 pieces per pack). I purchased 6 packages to use on hangers in my coat closet.

Instructions:

1). Cut each grip in half (if you look closely, there is a seam where it was originally sealed and cut along this line).

2). Place each grip on upper half of plastic or wire hanger. I used two on each side.

3). Hot glue seams that you had cut back together. (Optional)

4). Peal off any loose hot glue strings and let dry for at least 30 minutes.

5). Voila! Now you have a Non-slip hanger or hangers.

They work GREAT and looks more stylish than pipe cleaners, yarn or rubber bands. I will be doing this for the hangers in my master bedroom closet.

I ended up using 4 packages of pencil/pen grips (2 on each side of hanger) to make 10 stainless steel hangers into non-slip hangers.

Heavy duty steel hanger.

DT pen/pencil grips. This is the ridged style but they also had the smooth style.

Cut in half (I cut along the seam that was already there).

Place on upper hanger.

I used two per side.

Hot glue the seam back together so that grip will not fall off (optional).

Finished product.

Close up of left hang of snow coat (front of coat opened wide so that you can see coat actually on the grip).
