How many of us own Ikea furniture?.... I'm sure a lot of us do! It was the first furniture store I turned to when I moved to university. They have affordable and great looking furniture that is easy to assemble and disassemble when you need to move, although the process might put a strain on your marriage :P One of my favorites from Ikea is the Malm 6 drawer dresser.

Before

For those of you new to Ikea, this is what the Malm looks like.

It is a sturdy piece of furniture with a lot of storage and comes in various sizes. The only drawback of this furniture....it's so popular that everyone has one! So began my quest for personalizing my Malm dresser.

The general color palette of our bedroom is Royal blue, Gray, Gold, and White (Stay tuned for the bedroom makeover in our upcoming blogs!). So to fit into this color scheme I decided to go with an expresso, gold and white theme for the Malm makeover. Here is an image of the dresser after the makeover.

As always I want people to be able to recreate these looks so I will give a breakdown of the products I used and the method.

Project #1 - Add knobs to the drawers.

This is by far the simplest way to upgrade any dresser. I found our knobs on a random trip to HomeGoods. Yes, I am a weirdo who goes to home decor stores even when I don't need anything, just cause it makes me happy :)

Project #2 - Contact paper

This is again a very simple way of updating old furniture. The best part about it is that it is reversible so if you ever get bored of it you can always change it around without any damage to the dresser.

So here you have the final look!
