Get furniture sliders - they look like coasters that go under the legs of furniture. They make them for sliding on carpet and hard surfaces and are available at Walmart.
A cheaper way is to use plastic lids from containers, such as yogurt, pringles, etc.

Go to Harbor Freight or Walmart and get furniture sliders. I think the Dollar store sells them too. OMG they work great. I do not more furniture without them.
Furniture sliders
Sounds like you just need a crew with muscles to get the job done!
I would also take the mattress and box spring off the bed before I moved it, to lighten it up a bit.
As Redcatcec suggested, you can make your own furniture cliders at no expense by using plastic lids from plastic containers or any jar lid that will fit under the 4 legs of the bed. Just lift each leg, slide the lid beneath and then the bed can slide more easily across the surface of the rug.
I use garbage bags under the mattress on its side, and if its really tough I add a really long rachet strap to drag it with. I have even put two rachet straps on a queen mattress so 2 of us could drag it up 4 flights of stairs.
Buy furniture sliders. 4 pack at Home Depot. Hoist one corner of bed and slide under leg until you have all 4 in place. Push the bed easily on carpeting. They are almost flat with a rubber pad inside not the kind on wheels.
Hi Beth, hope these helps you out!
