Clear EVERYTHING out and paint geometric shapes (use painter's tape) in 2 or 3 light colors like yellows, pinks, etc. Rubber interlocking mats for flooring???

You could use a closet or if there isn't a closet in the room, devote one corner in the room for some shelves/storage space. Just make sure the shelves are anchored to the wall for safety.

You could use a bookcase for storage then fix a fold down table onto it. You can put shelves above the door and window line for more storage. Then use useful storage like a storage box stool. A coffee table with baskets under is also useful.
